Comic Relief In 1999 Euro Strategies helped set up the first campaign by the wine trade to raise money for the nationally recognised charity Comic Relief. Apart from raising money for a good cause, the idea behind this major fund-raising effort which was started by Jancis Robinson MW and her husband Nick Lander, was to help make the subject of wine ‘fun’ and counter the impression that people in the wine trade are elitist, stuffy or old-fashioned. Since wine is now the most popular alcoholic drink in the UK having overtaken spirits and beer, it was important to persuade everyone involved in selling wine to particpate. The next Red Nose Day is on Friday 16 March 2001, and once again Euro Strategies are part of the Wine Relief committee. This year, the wine industrys fundraising initiative is making it very simple for retailers up and down the country to get involved. Retailers will sell a selection of their most popular wines in support of Red Nose Day. Special Comic Relief collarettes will identify the selected lines that are part of the two-week Wine Relief promotion. 10% of the price of each bottle sold will be donated to Comic Relief and every single pound donated to Comic Relief will help tackle poverty and promote social justice both in the UK and Africa. The promotion will continue until 18, so there is plenty of time to buy your bottles and drink in moderation of course to celebrate Red Nose Day. For a list of the wines or retailers involved please contact us on info@eurostrategies.co.uk or for further information about Comic Relief 2001 please visit www.comicrelief.org.uk Last Red Nose Day, Wine Relief, raised £350,000 for Comic Relief. All we are asking is for people buying a bottle of wine at the beginning of March to consider buying one where 10% of the price will go to Comic Relief!
